Climate Change in Antarctica

I chose this article because nowadays, the sea level continue rising every part of the world because the Antarctic ice sheet melts. Therefore, Antarctica is the important part of the world that indicates the environmental changes that may happen later. I think this topic is the most crucial because our world is warmer everyday.

According to International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators [IAATO] (2010), Antarctica is important of Earth system, so it is linked directly to Earth's environment. Nowadays, the current climate situations have been happened. The increasing of CO2 and CH4, so they cause rapid warming, especially around Antarctic Peninsula and Southern Ocean. Ice sheet loses rapidly, so it makes the rised sea level. Additionally, climate change causes marine ecosystems. Because sea level rises, aquatic animals may adapt themselves to live in the changeable condition. However, some can't adapt themselves, so they become distinct. Moreover, ice cores give clues to predict the future climate. For example, because of CO2 and CH4, ice loss causes rapidly sea level four to six metres. In the future, greenhouse gases will be doubled, and ice sheet contributes to rise sea level.

I agree with this topic because with myself, I can feel about the hot weather that is increasing everyday, and it will continue rising. Therefore, we just accept them and protect the environment.

Impacts of Hunting and Fishing

I chose this topic because I thing that the amount of marine wildlife in Antarctica is decreasing, and becomes threatened. The most important reason comes from the need of the market. People have to live in the recent world and want to have the money to spend their lives easily without poverty problems. Therefore, they decide to do this without thinking of the environment, and it can cause many problems.

According to Australian Antarctic Division [AAD] (2010), hunting fir whales and seals attract tourists to go to Antarctica in the early years of the 19th century. For sealing, fishermen hunt, but they do not hunt the seals for commercial. In some areas in Antarctica, they can not hunt the seals because there is the World Heritage list, so it will prevent the distinction of them. For whaling, this activity grew quickly because the markets want whale meat. Finally, for fishing, it is a large commercial resource, and it makes many causes in the marine ecosystem. Fishing affects on predator and destroys habitat of marine wildlife.

I disagree with those activities like that. There are no profits on our world if these activities occur. Actually, it may destroy the chain-food of the marine ecosystems so that everything will be changed. To avoid destroying the environment, you can use your common senses to avoid the inappropriate manner.

The Impact of Visitors

I chose this article because I think that most environmental impacts have been made by human. They are not only travelling but also destroying. It is explicit problems that happen in Antarctica, especially Antarctica Peninsula. As you can see in the picture above, ice sheet melts every year, and this problem will cause the sea level and the habitat of wildlife and plants.

According to "the impact of visitors" (2010), the main impacts that happen nowadays come from two groups which are tourists and personnel of a national Antarctic programme. In Antarctica, there are many beautiful areas that attract visitors. If tourists want to visit Antarctica, they will travel by ships. Sometimes, the accident might happen when ships are grounded on rocks. Therefore, this accident has been made oil-spills. Additionally, the tourists not only visit beautiful areas bot also have small parties. Therefore, they might have an accident from travelling by vehicles. There is no guarantee that crashed vehicles will be removed from Antarctica. The piece of information that I mentioned is the impact of visitors because it definitely comes from them.

I like and agree with this topic because it is the truth that comes from human activities. It tells us that human is the crucial indicator because they might visit the attractive areas or wildlife or plants, after that, they may destroy them even if they don't know. It is impossible that people who go there are not going to leave any evidence. Therefore, I will use this topic in the marine ecosystem section because it is suitable.

Environmental Protection of Antarctica

I chose this article that was related to the Antarctica because I think that this continent is important for us. It is the main indicator of climate change in the world, so it should be protected by everybody who visits there, especially tourists.

This article is attractive because it is related to the recent situation in our world. According to British Antarctic Survey [BAS] (2010), they tell us that Antarctic is essential for our world because it's the indicator on the Earth's climate change. Antarctic scientist has revealed the impact of human activity because around 30000 tourists visit each year. Although there are many impacts occur in the Antarctica, BAS has managed and responded for most of the UK science in Antarctica for ensuring that they minimize impact on Antarctica's fragile environment. For example, they remove all waste that they generate. In addition, there is Annex II of the Environmental Protocol, BAS prohibits its personnel not to destroy and interfere plants and animals. Therefore, BAS is important in protecting the Protected and Historic Areas.

I agree with this topic because the Antarctica is destroyed by human manner. If they decide to do such things, our world will be more destroyed. At last, it may cause to human who create these problems. Therefore, everybody, especially tourists should pay attention to protect the environment.

Pollution and Waste

I chose this article because pollution and waste are the most important problems that happen nowadays. They cause many environmental impacts, and they make the environment get worse.

According to Australian Antarctic division (2010), pollution and waste are the most visible effects of human occupation across the planet. For example, vehicle emit emissions and chemicals litter the landscapes and pollute the oceans. Some of these chemicals can become concentrated in the bodies of local wildlife such as seals, penguins and whales, and can be harmful to these animals in the long-term. In Antarctica, it is not possible for people to visit without leaving some evidence. In attempting to deal with the problems associated with the impacts on the Antarctic environment, Australia established the Human Impacts program to focus on understanding and minimising the effects in Antarctica

I agree about it because we can not improve these problems anymore. Nowadays, some group of people continue destroying the environment because they need to increase their profit. Therefore, the environment is ruined. Comparing to Thailand, there are many problems regarding to pollution and waste. For example, in Bangkok and Chiangmai, because of many population living there, pollution and waste are growing too. People received them by breathing, so they may cause directly the body.
